Huating Cultural Park | Jiangsu, China
The archaeological site of Huating, located in the southwestern area of the city, was inhabited by human civilizations dating back 5000 years. Archaeologists have unearthed thousands of items used by early humans from the Paleolithic period, or the Bronze Age, including jewelry, pottery, and stone tools made out of bones. This location, called “Huating Prehistoric relics,” is well protected and on exhibit.
The design vision for the Huating Cultural Park is to create an open green space that would inspire, promote and encourage cultural pursuits for all. The landscaped park will provide a vibrant venue for indoor and outdoor performances of music, dance, and theatre, as well as art exhibitions and other cultural events. The design intent is to provide a pleasant environment and spacious lawns for leisure and relaxation. The design focuses on restoring environmental quality in the area and also protecting the existing archaeological site.
The design aims to create a new brand that represents the cultural life of Jiangsu. Cultural destinations, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Center for Performance Arts, as well as outdoor retail strips, are linked into an arts and culture route via a proposed pedestrian walkway. The park celebrates the unique ecological, cultural, and innovative contexts of the site’s history, and will be the largest green space in the City of Xinyi, Jiangsu Province.
